Story

The story of “The Witcher 2” is set in the realm of bestselling fantasy saga, conjured to life by Andrzej Sapkowski – one of the most claimed contemporary Polish writers. Events in Witcher 2 start a month after the events in Witcher 1. After saving Foltest King from an unknown assassin at the end of the first game, Geralt is told to move out to Foltest’s aid. The king now attempts to quench the remnants of the rebellion incited by the Order of the Flaming Rose during the course of Geralt’s previous exploits.

The Witcher 2

Foltest King holds castle of Baroness La Valette under siege, and Geralt is called upon to enter the most dangerous part of the realm – region where three kingdoms (Temeria, Kaedwen and Aedrin) share the borders, up the river Pontar. And so, discovering the identity of the would-be assassin will have to be postponed – even though this discovery might shed light onto many events of the last year. As it appears, Foltest is not the only King to have been offered a silent blade; Northern Kingdoms’ crowned heads are falling one by one while Temeria and neighbouring kingdoms are still in turmoil.

Geralt is a witcher – a semi-superhuman being, magical mutant, bred in order to hunt and kill monsters. Unfortunately, arcane masters who created the witchers did not foresee that by making the monster-killers superhuman in almost every aspect they doomed them to life of solitude and mistrust. Even so, the witchers still retain a lot of their human ways, one of which is the ability to err, another – the potential to be corrupted. This potential is explored further, as it seems that the elusive Assassins of Kings are trained in arts peculiarly similar to the martial arts employed by the witchers in eliminating the monster threats…

The Witcher 2 is continuation of Geralt’s adventures, beginning right where TW1 has finished.

Story’s background: After suppressing Order’s rebellion and saving Foltest’s life, Geralt enters right into the middle of political mess in the Kingdom of Temeria. The witcher is helping the king with restoring peace. Order’s last stand finally surrenders. Now the only thing standing on way to peace is rebellious castle of Baroness La Valette, which separated herself from the kingdom. A month after attempt of Foltest’s assassination, his army stands in front of Baroness’s castle, preparing for the final battle. In the meantime Geralt,  busy with protecting the king, is not able to solve the mysterious witcher – assassin case. Case, which may answer many questions…

Short description of the story:
Geralt starts his adventure with attempt to explain identity of group of killers, which are responsible of assassinations on Kings of Northern Kingdoms. Geralt wants to find their connections to the witchers and their’s motives. Lead follows Pontar river’s upstream, into restless lands between Temeria, Kaedwen and Aedrin – the place, where Geralt will come just into the middle of conflict of the most powerful forces of the world.

STORY
• Story and dialogues were written by TW1’s storywriters
• By the end of February, TW1’s and TW2’s lead story writer, Artur Ganszyniec, quitted CDP RED. It won’t influence story’s quality as it had been finished by this time.
• Story will begin two months after TW1’s events and pick its plots  – Foltest asks Geralt to travel across the country with him and restore peace. But the witcher would prefer to run an investigation on the mysterious assassin
• Story’s going to be written “around” Geralt, making him central part of game’s world
It’s going to be the strongest part of TW2 and be “taking place” on higher level than in TW1.
• Main-plot playthrough is going to be shorter than in TW1 and will take 25 – 30 hours. When playing game and all side-missions, it’d take 2-3 times more to finish game. And we are talking about a one playthrough only
• Much more factors than in TW1 will influence game’s endings and there will be much more of them than in TW1
• Moral choices are to be even more mature than in TW1 and have bigger, unpredictable influence on story – game is to even more nonlinear than TW1
• We will meet some old TW1’s friends – surely: Triss, Dandelion, Zoltan Chivay, and maybe somebody else
• Geralt’s main opponents will be an elf-spy Iorveth and Kingslayer – we can see both of them on trailer. Kingslayer seems to know Geralt from the past
• Story will give some explanations about what happened between Geralt’s death and TW1. Probably the amnesia thing will be explained
• There will be TW1’s save importing. It will cause your money, swords and abilities carried to TW2. Also decisions made in TW1 will somehow affect TW2’s story.
• In some urgent situations, when in dialogue, we will have to pick one of the dialogue options in a limited amount of time. If you won’t, game will pick one on its own
• Andrzej Sapkowski didn’t cooperate with RED on TW2
